The critical edition of Aristotle’s longest and most important zoological work as it was read in the Latin Middle Ages, complete and with exhaustive bilingual indices of the rich vocabulary. This book forms the complement to the first volume published in 2000. The preface contains some remarks about the transmission of the text as a supplement to the first volume. Then follow the critical edition of books VI-X, and the indices for the whole text. The complete edition gives access to the longest and most important work from Aristotle’s zoology, De historia animalium, in the Latin translation by William of Moerbeke. This version was part of the standard university curriculum in the late-medieval West. The bilingual indices give access to the richness of the translator’s vocabulary and provide an indispensable tool for the study of his translation method. Except for De partibus animalium, all of Moerbeke’s translations from the Aristotelian zoological corpus are now available in critical editions.

"Even archaeological matters are subjected to prevailing trends and sociopolitical phenomena. In our time, when the relationship of individuals to their environment is increasingly a subject of discussion, it is amazing that it has not already been extensively examined in regard to the antique humans. Plants and animals are often chosen motives on Greek pottery. Animals are depicted in a realistic environment, as pets, as hounds or prey animals, plants characterize a location or act as ornamentation. Both, plants and animals, are shown in scenes of everyday life and in mythological sequences, both may also bare a symbolic meaning or serve in an ornamental frieze. In this way, the depictions of plants and animals represent a main subject or serve as attributes or ornamental enrichments. For the first time, this volume is covering these often neglected elements on Greek vases of the Geometric to the early Hellenistic period"--Back cover

Founded in 1932, Journal of Animal Ecology publishes original research papers on all aspects of animal ecology; specifically those that make substantial contributions to our understanding of animal ecology as well as offering insights into issues of general interest to ecologists. This includes reviews that shed light on subjects central to animal ecology, including theoretical analyses of specific topics. The Journal publishes standard papers, essay reviews, forum pieces and In Focus articles (by invitation). The journal is published six times a year. Further details are available at www.journalofanimalecology.org. JSTOR provides a digital archive of the print version of The Journal of Animal Ecology. The electronic version of The Journal of Animal Ecology is available at http://www3.interscience.wiley.com/journal/117960113/home.
